How to Report Child Abuse
- 1Step 1 – Call 1098 — CHILDLINE is available 24×7 and will guide you through the process. They also dispatch trained responders.
- 2Step 2 – Visit police station — File an FIR at the nearest police station. Under POCSO, police must register the complaint immediately.
- 3Step 3 – Medical examination — Take the child to the nearest government hospital. Medical examination must be done by a doctor within 24 hours.
- 4Step 4 – Child Welfare Committee — The CWC in every district has authority to provide immediate shelter and protection to children.
- 5Step 5 – Legal aid — A Special Public Prosecutor is assigned to POCSO cases. Free legal aid is available through DLSA.
